Budgeting as a Tool for Standard Cost Development and Management Strategic Planning

This course provides the tools necessary to prepare a budget and to understand its relevance for strategic planning. In addition, it will discuss its role as a basis for the development of standard costing, its relevance towards developing a culture of accountability and as a vehicle towards appropriately managing and controlling expenditures.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:

1. Describe the budget preparation process.
2. Recognize the relationship between budgets and strategic planning.
3. Use manufacturing budgets for standard cost development.
4. Complete a realistic production/revenues budget.
5. Recognize the importance of a company’s culture to enhance accountability.
6. Use a cost center approach to forecasting expenses and apply proper budgeting techniques.
7. Recognize techniques for planning, managing and controlling budgets.
8. Use a tool that makes budget revisions easier to implement.
